BeforeYouRent is designed to be useful without becoming a rumor board. We separate firsthand renter reports, public/open starter references, market rent benchmarks, and private moderation evidence.
Public/open building references
Starter profiles may use municipal open data, OpenStreetMap residential building references, external map links, or other public sources. These profiles are not ratings.
Market rent context
City-level rent context uses Statistics Canada / CMHC average rents where available. It is labelled as local market context, not a claim about a specific building’s current asking rent.
Private evidence
Evidence supplied by renters is for moderation support. Files, exact unit numbers, reporter identities, private notes, and audit logs are not published.
What public pages do not claim
- • Starter profiles are not endorsements, ratings, or legal findings.
- • City rent averages are not exact current asking rents for a building.
- • A lack of reports does not mean a building has no issues.
- • Corrections and disputes can be requested for public content.
